About our Organization: The City of Northfield adopted our Climate Action Plan in November 2019. The plan includes a variety of strategies and actions to reduce (mitigate) greenhouse gas emissions, which includes carbon-neutral strategies such as sequestration and offsets and to help our community adapt and become more resilient to the effects of climate change. Climate Change Impacts is one of the six priority areas of the City’s 2018-2020 Strategic Plan.
Values around Earth Day: The City is pleased to support this Earth Day celebration and all the amazing actions being carried out by members of our community. To read the plan and learn more about actions you can take go to the City of Northfield website at www.ci.northfield.mn.us/sustainability

Cannon River Watershed Partnership
Resilience, Equity, and Engagement
About our Organization: At Cannon River Watershed Partnership (CRWP) we partner with people and organizations to value, protect, and improve the region’s land and water. Clean Water Happens; through our annual river CleanUP, by helping farmers and landowners put more conservation on their land, and by helping clean up stormwater before it reaches the river. Do you share our beliefs, too? Then join us at www.crwp.net.
Values around Earth Day: CRWP’S core values are resilience, equity, and engagement. We believe that our rivers, lakes, and farm fields are more resilient and able to handle climate change challenges like flooding. By investing in clean water and conservation projects today, we can strengthen our rivers, lakes, and farm fields to better survive the ongoing challenges of a changing climate.
Blooming since 2010
About our Organization: Paisley Gardens offers a variety of veggies, herbs, annuals, native plants & perennials from local growers with organic practices. We strive to offer Earth-friendly gardening products; products made from local artists.
Values around Earth Day: Protecting the Earth is very important from a business perspective and at home. Our family recycles, donates & uses our energy resources wisely. We are passionate about the outdoors and take our love for the Earth seriously so we can preserve our natural beauty for years to come. Climate change is real and it is important to us so we donate to support the protection of the Boundary Waters; legislation to keep our resources from ruin.
Just Food Co-op
Community Owned, Everyone Welcome
About our Organization: The Estes Campbell Rehorst Law Firm does estate law: wills, trusts, estate planning, and probate. Attorney Erika Campbell serves clients in Minnesota and South Dakota from her office in Northfield.
Values around Earth Day: People now agree that the climate crisis demands immediate action. It’s our society’s top issue, not just its top environmental issue. And COVID-19 has shown yet again that procrastination kills people.
About our Organization: The 2011 Climate Action Plan for Carleton addresses the College’s commitment to carbon emissions to be carbon neutral by 2050. However, sustainability efforts began long before that. Carleton installed not only one, but two commercial-sized wind turbines, a solar photovoltaic and solar thermal array, and is currently in the process of switching the campus district heating system from steam to hot water using geothermal technology. Our team spans both the Sustainability Office and the Center for Community and Civic Engagement, with a total of 15 student staff and multiple student organizations working on sustainability initiatives both on and off-campus.
Values around Earth Day: Carleton has been a part of the Earth Day celebrations since the very first Earth Day, planting over 30,000 trees in the Cowling Arboretum, many of which we still enjoy today! We are so excited to partner with the Northfield Earth Day planning committee on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
About our Organization: The League of Women Voters Northfield-Cannon Falls (LWVNCF) is a grassroots affiliate of LWVUS, a national organization known for non-partisan political education and advocacy. As a local League, we are concerned with climate change and have provided educational programs addressing the issue.
Values around Earth Day: The League’s environmental goals aim to prevent ecological degradation, and to reduce and control pollutants before they go down the sewer, up the chimney or into the landfill. We support vigorous enforcement mechanisms, including sanctions for states and localities that do not comply with federal standards as well as substantial fines for noncompliance.
Montessori Children’s House
An Environment for Discovery and Learning
About our Organization: Montessori Children’s House was founded in the centenary year of Montessori education in 2007. We have two classrooms that were created with the unique characteristics of the Montessori environment in mind. We feel that the goal of early childhood education should not be to fill the child with facts from a pre-selected course of studies, but rather to cultivate his/her own readiness. Please visit our website for more information: www.mchnorthfield.com
Values around Earth Day: Celebrating Earth Day provides our teachers with the opportunity to teach children about the importance of keeping our Earth clean. Our teachers plan activities to create objects from natural and recycled materials. In addition to this, teachers take children outside to pick up litter and plant trees.
